Message of solidarity for the people of Japan

OTTAWA, March 15, 2011The University of Ottawa and its entire community are deeply saddened by the tragic and unimaginable loss of life suffered in the earthquake and tsunami that have devastated Japan.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the people of Japan, to our Japanese students and to the broader Japanese community of Ottawa during this difficult time.

As the nation of Japan struggles to unearth survivors and as the scope of the catastrophe comes into focus, we wish the country and its people every success in their efforts to recover and rebuild.

Everyone is invited to support the recovery effort by leaving a donation in the boxes to be distributed shortly campus-wide.

OJCA-OJCC - March 13th Press Release

Members of the Ottawa Japanese community are experiencing a range of emotions with the 9.0 (Richter scale) earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck the northeastern area of Japan.  Contact with family and friends in Japan have been difficult due to inoperable landlines and cell lines.  The best information sources have been through twitter and internet.  After 24 hours, most members of the local Japanese community have been able to make contact with family and friends in Japan, but there are still a few individuals who have no word from the Sendai and the northern most areas of the impacted area.

Fundraising?

I haven’t been in Ottawa for very long, so I haven’t been very involved in the activities of the OJCA-OJCC, but has there been any talk of fundraising efforts together as a community?

OJCA- OJCC

The OJCA and OJCC are here for you. Please see our website and facebook for more information.

In this year and beyond, please think of Japan and help in any way possible: donations to the Red Cross and other charities, buying Japanese products, and promoting tourism to Japan.
